Why minor in Black Studies?
Wabash College’s Black Studies minor offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the diverse experiences, geographies, and traditions of Black people across the diaspora. Courses in the minor consider the black experiences through the lenses of the intersectionality of race, gender, sexuality, class, nation, and political orientations. The minor in Black Studies provides an interdisciplinary consideration and appreciation of the Black experience broadly defined. Students who minor in Black Studies will develop and strengthen critical writing and analytical skills, while challenging traditional ways of thinking about diversity and difference. Black Studies faculty foster a critical consciousness about global relations and the constitutive and performative role of Blackness and the Black experience. The goal of the program is to enable students to incorporate the Black experience into contemporary social, cultural, and political frameworks and to prepare students for global citizenship.
The program is administered through a steering committee comprised of affiliated faculty.
